When you think of the ideal date, you’re probably thinking of something along the lines of showering, getting all dressed up, applying perfume or cologne, and going to a nice restaurant or some other respectable romantic venue. We’re fairly sure that what you’re not thinking of is getting hot and sweaty with your partner…at the gym, of course. No, exercising in the form of lifting weights, cardiovascular activity, or a combination of the two, is not usually seen as romantic or even anywhere in the ballpark of typical date ideas. And yet, here we are, writing a blog post about it. What’s up with that?
Well, CSS Fitness provides the Scottsdale area with various gym membership services, including things like corporate fitness program options, modern gym equipment, and even couples fitness classes, as the title of this post references. Now, while going your local Scottsdale fitness center and working out on your first date might not be the best idea, it could make for a great time if you’ve been dating someone for awhile and you’re comfortable around each other. Who better than your significant other to help motivate you and push you to your limits? After all, that’s the person who you’d want to impress over anyone else…right?
We’re going to look at some interesting workout ideas for couples that may or may not also work as date ideas. Ultimately, we’ll leave you to your best judgment when it comes to your love life, but just remember that CSS Fitness does offer fitness programs that work great for couples. Anyway, let’s take a look.
Hit The Weights Together
Perhaps this is where the competitive dynamic in your relationship comes out. When you get to the gym together, there’s no need to go separate ways. Instead, try lifting weights as a duo and see how much your workout improves (especially in the motivation department!). Plus, there’s a practical aspect to lifting together: Your partner can be a spotter, making sure that your form is good and that you’re not taking on too much weight, while also offering verbal encouragement if you’re feeling tired during your reps. Hooray, teamwork!
Partner Yoga Or Acroyoga
Acroyoga is a physical practice that combines yoga and aerobatics. Partner yoga can strengthen both your practice, your physical strength, and the dynamic of your relationship. Poses between you and your partner for acroyoga or partner yoga are meant to be performed together, such as a double downward-facing dog – these movements allow you and your partner to stretch more fully and deeply than you could on your own.
But there’s more to gaining physical strength in partner yoga. These poses also require trust, teamwork, and communication. So, it encourages the two of you to be in touch with each other. Consider this couples workout activity as emotionally and mentally strengthening as it is physically strengthening.
Run, Run, Run
For some, running alone is a meditative sort of practice, but for others, cardio is more fun with company. So why not go on a run together with your partner, especially if you’re both already avid runners? Simply set a destination, fire up those fitness tracker apps, squeeze in those dynamic leg swing stretches, and get moving! Ideally, somewhere nice and scenic is the best destination to head to. Even if the two of you don’t have the luxury of running somewhere outdoors, you can always head to your local gym and run side-by-side on treadmills. To maintain a good conversation throughout, just make sure to keep the pace easy.
Go On A Nice Hike Together
If high-impact running isn’t really your thing, hiking is a great way to get some moderate cardio in your life without feeling like your chest is going to explode. Whether you’re exploring a new trail or traveling down a familiar path, you’ll have more time to take in all of nature’s beauty and enjoy each other’s company. Plus, with a hike, you’ll always be able to conversate because you’re going at a walking pace (those steep hills might belabor your breathing a little bit, though).
Cruise Around On Your Bikes
Biking is great because you and your partner have complete control over the intensity (or lack thereof) of the activity. Looking for a butt-kicking, calf-smashing, exhaustive ride? Bike up hills or crank up your mileage. On the other hand, if you’re looking to casually cruise down to your local brewery to enjoy your Sunday afternoon, then your standard bike paths might be the way to go. If it’s casual, then it’s probably going to be a good time. If it’s more exhaustive, just make sure that both of you are on the same page about the intensity of your ride in question.
Get Down With Salsa Dancing
This might be the most legitimately romantic idea in this post. Salsa dancing is the perfect combination of physical activity with a romantic atmosphere – after all, traditional exercise isn’t the only way to get your heart rate up, if you know what we mean. Not only is salsa dancing a fun and cardiovascular-based activity, but if you and your partner are new to it, you’ll get even greater satisfaction from learning. This is because, when you take on a new activity, it stimulates dopamine production in the brain, which acts as your pleasure-seeking neurotransmitter. So basically, salsa dancing is a win-win for everyone. Now finish those margaritas and hit the dance floor!
